When am I ready for a re-coat?
Over time with normal or even extreme usage the top layer of finish will wear and dull. This leaves your floor vulnerable to stains, dirt build-up and surface scratches.
Worn finishes lose their luster, shine and have an overall cloudy look.
Following a re-coat maintenance plan every 3-4 yrs. will extend the life of your investment and avoid the costly and inconvenient need for a full sand and finish.
Most full sand and finish processes cold cost thousands of dollars and take up to 1 week to complete.
A proper re-coat maintenance plan will limit the need for a full sanding.

Is 1-DAY RECOAT for everyone?
There are situations where 1-DAY RECOAT may not be for you:
- If the finish has worn past the stain color and exposing the raw wood.
- Gray/Black marks under or over the stain finish do to excessive moisture or overuse of harsh chemicals.
- Cupping, warping and excessive shrinkage of the boards do to water or moisture damage.
- Multiple coats or overuse of rejuvenating mop on acrylic type finishes. These types of consumer products can be so over used they create a snugging build up that cannot be removed with even our strongest pre-cleaners.
Any of these conditions could warrant the need for a full sand and finish or a complete re-installation of a new floor. For an example of this, visit our GALLERY page and review the Family Home: Warrenville project.

-
What is 1-DAY RECOAT and is it expensive?
1-DAY RECOAT is a highly advanced wood floor restoration process designed to refinish your wood floor in less than 24 hours without using conventional sand and finish methods.
Our “GREEN” engineered coatings don't have the ODOR or TOXIC chemical fumes used in normal refinishing processes. This makes them better for the environment and safer for your family and pets.
As far as expense is concerned, 1-DAY RECOAT usually costs less than 98¢ per square foot. When you compare this cost with conventional sanding and finishing – up to $3.00 per square foot – 1-DAY RECOAT is the economical choice for restoring your floors.

Can I re-coat a factory or prefinished floor?
Yes! Due to advances in today's wood floor coatings, manufacturers now offer solutions to the bonding problems associated with factory finished wood floors.
Some pre-finished floors may need a more aggressive process to ensure the proper bonding from old to new.
Our trained sales and technical staff can explain the different techniques used in preparation of such a process. Schedule a FREE CONSULTATION today to discuss your project!
-
Can I re-coat a hand-scrape or distressed hardwood floor?
Yes! Hand-scrape or distressed hardwood floors are extremely difficult to re-sand without damaging the original character of the wood surface. 1-DAY RECOAT is an excellent option for restoring these types of floors because conventional sanding isn't necessary in our process. A good example of a restored hand-scrape floor is the Estate Home: Hinsdale project on our GALLERY page.
We recommend our PREMIUM satin finish and re-coat every 3-5 years.
-
What if my floors are too damaged for a 1-DAY RECOAT?
No Problem. Complete Flooring can resand, stain and finish your floor if it has extreme wear or damage using the same LOW VOC green products used for 1-DAY RECOAT. NOTE: additional time may be required.
-

How often do I need my floors recoated?
Since every household traffic and usage is different, we recommend you follow these basic guidelines:
- If your wood floor is over 5 yrs. old.
- The overall look of your floor is cloudy and gray looking.
- A loss of shine in the traffic areas or in the case of a satin finished floor, the traffic area becomes shinny or has a buffed look.
- Routine cleaning and wipe ups become more difficult.
- Water streaking and smudging after cleaning.
- Finish is easily scratched or scuffed.
-
Is 1-DAY RECOAT safe for my family and pets?
Conventional oil based polyurethane wood finishes can be very toxic. Besides not allowing you to enter the home for as long as 2-4 days after the last coat has been applied. The overwhelming varnish odor can linger in your home for months.
Our waterborne polyurethane finishes are much friendlier to kids and pets than all other oil or varnish based products. You can get more information on our PROCESS page. Click on the product link or photo to view more information.

What does Low VOC and NMP Free mean?
VOC stands for Volatile Organic Compound. VOC's emit gases as they cure after they've dried. This can go on for months and in some situations years. These compounds along with NMP (N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone) have been linked to ozone depletion and a list of health issues. Some are minor like headaches, eye, nose and throat irritation. And, some are more serious illnesses like cancer, kidney and liver damage, and central nervous system damage. People with chronic allergies and illnesses, pregnant and nursing women, small children and pets are at the most risk to their health.
Our coatings are low VOC (less than 275 gm/L) and do not contain any NMP.
This means you get a great looking floor and a much safer home for you, your children, and your pets..
